About Us

The Beacon exists to inspire communities through enterprise.  This flagship enterprise is funded by two local charities, Centre West and Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle.

The Beacon development, which opened during the Spring of 2012, stands in a prominent position on Westgate Road in the west end of Newcastle,  and is an eco-friendly sustainable building. All materials used in construction have been chosen to maximise the potential to recycle at the end of the life of the building. The Building has a predicted BREEAM rating of “excellent” with a predicted score of 71.28.

 Our Partners

Groundwork South Tyneside & Newcastle is a local charity that works towards a vision of a society of sustainable communities which are vibrant, healthy and safe, that respect the local and global environment and where individuals and enterprise prosper. Creating those sustainable communities means developing initiatives which cut across economics, social issues and the environment.

The Centre West charity was set up in 2009 after ten years working as New Deal for Communities in the west end of Newcastle.  Since 2000 they have helped cut crime by almost half, improved over 2000 homes and helped over 1300 local people into jobs.  Centre West has a vision to keep the community at the heart of all their projects and deliver projects that meet community needs and aspirations.
